DC in 1987 was way more interesting than most of what Marvel was doing, (perhaps minus EPIC) even if it was sometimes misguided and scattershot. And wow, imagine a world in which a completely offbeat and nearly-uncategorizable book such as THE WASTELAND was being put out by one of the big two. Garcia-Lopez on books that came out regularly. Chaykin on BLACKHAWK. The early days of HELLBLAZER (I still love the Jamie Delano run and always will, purple prose and all).
Strange days indeed.
